- You're on the 05:45 Scoot arrival or a flight landing after 10 PM
- You travel with children and need child seats

Should you fly from Perth to Taipei, Taiwan or into Kaohsiung instead?
Pick the right day, and Perth to Kaohsiung is about as fast as Perth to Taipei.
But Kaohsiung has far fewer flights, and fares swing widely by date.
The quick Kaohsiung connections run through Hong Kong and Ho Chi Minh City.
Some of them don't fly every day.
That leaves you two choices.
Plan your departure date around the Kaohsiung flights.
Or fly to Taipei and continue south by High Speed Rail or a tripool private transfer.
Perth to Taiwan: Taipei, Kaohsiung or Taichung?
Taipei wins on choice. Kaohsiung can match its speed, but only on certain days.
| Airport | Quick connections (under 13 hours) | Fastest from Perth | Best for |
| Taipei Taoyuan (TPE) | ◎ 5 or more, most days | 11h 20m (Scoot via Singapore) | Taipei, northern Taiwan, first-timers |
| Kaohsiung (KHH) | △ 1 to 3, depending on the date | 11h 20m (Vietnam Airlines via Ho Chi Minh City) | Kaohsiung, Tainan, Kenting |
| Taichung (RMQ) | × Hong Kong only | 11h 35m (Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong) | Taichung, Sun Moon Lake |
Perth to Kaohsiung flights: what's actually available
Only Cathay Pacific (via Hong Kong) and Vietnam Airlines (via Ho Chi Minh City) are practical.
| Airline | Perth to Kaohsiung | Stopover | Total time | Return fare (approx.) |
| Vietnam Airlines | 00:25 to 11:45 | Ho Chi Minh City, 1h 50m | ◎ 11h 20m | About A$1,800 (1 of 3 dates) |
| Cathay Pacific / HK Express | 08:20 to 20:20 | Hong Kong, 2h 30m | ◎ 12h | About A$1,460 to A$1,610 (2 of 3 dates) |
| Cathay Pacific | 00:10 to 12:40 | Hong Kong, 3h | ◎ 12h 30m | About A$1,460 to A$1,600 (all 3 dates) |
| Cathay Pacific / Qantas | 08:20 to 23:10 | Hong Kong, 5h 20m | 14h 50m | About A$1,070 to A$1,460 (2 of 3 dates) |
| AirAsia, Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific / Qantas | Next-day arrivals | Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok or Hong Kong, 13 to 20+ hours | × 24 to 31 hours | From about A$850 |
The same Cathay Pacific flight cost up to A$400 more on one date than on another.
If Kaohsiung is your goal, compare several dates before you book.
Fares and schedules change, so check your own dates.
Fly to Taipei and continue south: HSR or tripool?
If the Kaohsiung flights don't fit your dates, fly to Taipei and continue south the same day.
Scoot's quick connections to Taipei cost about A$1,060 to A$1,170 return in the same searches.
| Option | Time | Changes | Cost | Who it suits |
| High Speed Rail | About 2.5 hours, airport to Kaohsiung | Airport MRT, then HSR, then MRT or taxi to your hotel | Per person (NT$1,630 standard from Taipei) | Solo travellers and couples with light luggage |
| tripool private transfer | About 3.5 hours by road | ◎ None: airport to hotel door | One price per car (see the quote tool) | Families, groups, big luggage, late arrivals |
The HSR is faster on paper.
But every change of train adds time and effort after a 12-hour trip.
A private transfer takes longer but runs straight to your door.
The price covers the whole car, so it gets better value with each extra traveller.
💡tripool's advice: Landing late in Taipei, like Thai Airways at 22:10?
tripool private transfers run 24 hours a day, so you can head south straight from the airport.
Fly into Taipei, home from Kaohsiung
Book a multi-city ticket: Perth to Taipei, then Kaohsiung to Perth.
You travel north to south once, with no backtracking.
Cathay Pacific serves both airports through Hong Kong.
Kaohsiung flights are limited both ways, so check your return date first.
💡tripool's advice: Landing in Kaohsiung at 23:10 on the Cathay Pacific / Qantas connection, or ending your trip in the south?
tripool's airport transfers serve Kaohsiung Airport 24 hours a day, including trips to and from Tainan and Kenting.
Flying home from Taipei, Taiwan to Perth: which departure suits your last day?
Most flights home leave Taipei in the evening and land in Perth around dawn.
That gives you almost a full last day in Taiwan.
Singapore Airlines, Scoot and Cathay Pacific all run this pattern.
You can also leave in the late morning and be home that night.
Or leave after midnight, but expect a long layover.
The return leg of your Perth to Taiwan trip has no nonstop either.
With no time difference, the landing time in Perth is easy to plan around.
Taipei to Perth flights by departure time
Choose the departure that fits your last day, not just the fare.
| Leaves Taipei | Airline and stopover | Lands in Perth (approx.) | Your last day |
| 10:50 | Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong | 22:35 the same day | × Little time; the morning goes on checkout and the airport |

| 17:45 | Singapore Airlines via Singapore | 05:35 next day | ◎ Most of the day free |
| 19:15 to 19:55 | Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong | 06:50 next day | ◎ Most of the day free |
| 00:45 to 01:35 | Scoot via Singapore, Batik Air via Kuala Lumpur | 16:40 to 17:25 next day | △ A full day and evening, then a long layover |
Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Perth all run on UTC+8, so no time conversion is needed.
Some flights don't run daily, so check your own dates.
How to spend the last day before an evening flight
Check out, drop your bags, and enjoy the afternoon hands-free.
Most hotels will hold your luggage after checkout.
Flying Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, EVA Air or Starlux?
You can check in your bags at Taipei Main Station before you head out.
In-town check-in is on B1 above the Airport MRT station.
It opens from 06:00 to 21:30.
You must check in at least 3 hours before departure, on the day you fly.
Scoot and Singapore Airlines aren't on the list, so take your bags to the airport yourself.
| Time | Plan |
| 11:00 | Check out and leave your bags at the hotel |
| 11:30 to 15:00 | Last sightseeing, lunch and shopping |
| 15:30 | Collect your bags and leave for the airport |
| 16:30 | Arrive at Taoyuan Airport, 3 hours before departure |
| 19:30 | Depart for Perth via Hong Kong |
| About 06:50 | Land in Perth the next morning |
Booking your ride to the airport
Book the airport transfer home when you book your arrival.
Each transfer is one way, so book your arrival and return trips separately.
Book both ways and you'll get a coupon for your return trip.
Aim to reach Taoyuan Airport about 3 hours before an international departure.
🚗tripool's advice: Flying out in the evening?
Book a 4- to 6-hour charter with your bags in the car, visit your last stops, and finish at the airport.
The charter is a car and driver only, so plan your stops in advance.
Planning your first and last day around Perth to Taipei, Taiwan connections
Plan your first and last day around your flight times, not the calendar.
Taipei's temples and morning markets open early, so even a 5:45 AM landing can become a full first day.
Perth and Taipei share the same time zone.
There's no jet lag to lose a day to.
Most flights home leave in the evening, so your last day is nearly a full day too.
Just watch for Mondays, when several markets close.
Arrival day: what to do by landing time
Early arrivals get the most out of the day. Late arrivals should head straight to bed.
| You land | Example flight | Best plan |
| At dawn | Scoot via Singapore, 05:45 | Drop your bags, visit a temple, then breakfast at a morning market |
| Midday to afternoon | Singapore Airlines 13:10, Malaysia Airlines 14:10, Scoot 17:10 | Check in, then an evening temple visit and a night market |
| Late at night | Thai Airways 22:10, Batik Air 23:45 | Go straight to the hotel and start fresh at a morning market |
Landing at dawn: a sample first morning
The 05:45 landing gives you a temple and a market before most visitors are awake.
| Time | Plan |
| 05:45 | Land at Taoyuan Airport |
| 06:25 | Meet your pre-booked driver, 40 minutes after landing |
| 07:15 | Drop your bags at the hotel |
| 07:30 | Xingtian Temple, known for business and career blessings (opens 04:00) |
| 08:30 | Breakfast at Shuanglian Morning Market: scallion pancakes and salty soy milk |
| Mid-afternoon | Check in and rest before the evening |
Aim for the market at about 8:30, when stalls are set up but the crowds haven't arrived.
Leave your suitcase at the hotel first, because market lanes are narrow.
Bring cash in small notes, as most stalls don't take cards.
🚗tripool's advice: Prefer to skip the hotel stop?
Book a 4-hour charter from the airport and keep your bags in the car while you visit Longshan Temple (opens 06:00) and a morning market.
The charter is a car and driver only, so choose your stops in advance.
Afternoon and late-night arrivals
Land in the afternoon, and your first evening is yours.
Longshan Temple stays open until 22:00.
Xingtian Temple stays open until 21:00.
Finish with dinner at a night market near your hotel.
Land after 22:00, and save your energy for the morning.
Go straight to the hotel by pre-booked transfer or taxi.
Next morning, start with breakfast at Shuanglian Morning Market, which opens daily from 07:00.
Last day: what to do by departure time
An evening flight home gives you a full morning and most of the afternoon.
| You leave Taipei | Best plan |
| Late morning (Cathay Pacific 10:50) | × No time for sightseeing. Buy souvenirs the day before at Nanmen Market (open until 19:00). |
| Late afternoon to evening (Scoot 16:15, Singapore Airlines 17:45, Cathay Pacific 19:15 to 19:55) | ◎ Morning market, a temple, then lunch. Leave for the airport about 3 hours before departure. |
| After midnight (Scoot, Batik Air 00:45 to 01:35) | ○ A full day and evening. Leave your bags at the hotel and reach the airport by about 22:00. |
Nanmen Market is indoor and air-conditioned.
It's a good last stop for snacks and dried-food souvenirs to take home.
🚗tripool's advice: Flying home in the evening?
Book a 4- to 6-hour charter after checkout, keep your bags in the car, visit your last temple or market, and finish at the airport.
