Kaohsiung to TRA Hualien Station - rent a car with driver

Tripool offers private transfers and shared rides across Taiwan, including from Kaohsiung to TRA Hualien Station or anywhere in Hualien County. Whether your trip to Hualien City is for sightseeing (花蓮美術館 Hualien Art Museum, Dongdamen Night Market, Turumoan Whale Cultural Museum) or for an overnight stay (Pink Corner Hotel, Park City Hotel, Hualien Azure Hotel), we can arrange sedans, SUVs, 9-seater vans, or even mid-size buses to match your needs, saving you both the hassle of transfers at TRA Hualien Station and unnecessary extra expenses. But if you plan to switch to public transportation after arriving at TRA Hualien Station to continue to another county, let us help you calculate something you may not have thought about before—your hidden time cost. After all, your journey doesn’t really end at the station, does it? The traditional way of thinking is: “Home → Station A → Station B → Final Destination.” While the trip looks like it’s broken into sections, the actual total time you spend is the sum of all travel time plus all waiting and transfer time. Especially when your true destination is within about two hours or 150 kilometers of your departure point, the accumulated time spent going to the station, waiting in advance, and then catching a taxi or bus after getting off can easily exceed 90 minutes. At that point, a smarter choice is to go directly from Kaohsiung straight to your final destination. That’s exactly what Tripool’s long-distance private transfer service was designed for. Instead of booking a ride just to the station, enter your real destination or address on our website, and you’ll be surprised—when you skip all the complicated transfers and ride with Tripool directly, not only is the total travel time shorter and the ride more comfortable, but for groups of two or more, the total cost may even be cheaper than buying multiple HSR tickets plus several taxi fares. So next time you’re heading to the station, ask yourself: are you really going to the station, or to your destination? Let Tripool’s efficient point-to-point service give you a smarter journey that saves both time and money.
After analyzing the available data, we found the following alternatives to private charters or transfers. For the journey from Kaohsiung to TRA Hualien Station, the fastest land transportation is high-speed rail, but if you do not want to spend a lot of money, a car rental is the most cost-saving option for a group of 3-8 people. The data in the following table is based on a party of 3 and compares the pros and cons of a private car transfer, car rental, taxi, and high-speed rail. For a more complete analysis of transportation costs and time, please see the FAQ below. Furthermore, for solo travelers willing to sacrifice a bit of travel time in exchange for a convenient and affordable door-to-door service, we recommend considering Tripool's carpool.

TRA Hualien Station private Transfer FAQs

  • As long as you can choose the date, time, and finish the booking on our website or the app, tripool guarantees our driver will show up. However, tripool is not a ride-hailing yellow cab company. All the reservations have to be pre-booked. If you want to go to TRA Hualien Station from Kaohsiung, the soonest is finishing the booking four hours in advance.
  • To take the High Speed Rail (HSR) from downtown Kaohsiung to TRA Hualien Station, HSR is quick but pricey. From the earliest departure at 05:50 to the latest at 22:10, there are up to 87 high-speed rail from Zuoying to Nangang each day. Assuming you depart from Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City, you may walk or take a bus—if available—to Zuoying HSR station. Including walking to the platform, buying a ticket, and waiting for the train, it takes at least 20 minutes. Then, take a 105-145-minute (125 min on average) HSR ride from Zuoying Station to Nangang HSR Station. The ticket price is NT$1,530 per person, followed by a 10-minute walk to exit the station, wait for a ride at the taxi stand, and after a trip of about 224 minutes with a fare of NT$5,200, you will arrive at your destination at TRA Hualien Station (Hualien City, Hualien County). The entire journey, including transfers, takes a total of 6 hours and 19 minutes. Assuming 3 people traveling together, the average cost per person for the HSR and transfers is NT$3,260. In contrast, if you use Tripool for a door-to-door private car service, the average cost per person is about NT$2,900, and the journey takes 7 hours and 37 minutes. For long-distance travel, the HSR is indeed faster, but it comes with an extra transportation cost of about NT$1,080. Therefore, for those who are not in a major hurry, you may consider a cheaper and door-to-door private transfer option, like Tripool. If you are traveling with just one other person, you can also consider Tripool's carpooling service to save up to an additional 50% on transportation costs.
  • If you have a driver's license, do not mind driving yourself, and you do not need to use the travel time to rest in the car, there are about 15 rental car companies, such as 永翊租賃, 賽維斯, 大安通運企業, available in the Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City area. Typically, car rentals are billed by the day. A small sedan like a Toyota Corolla or Ford Fiesta costs around NT$1500 per day, while a 9-seater van like a Hyundai Staria or Volkswagen Caravelle starts at NT$4500 per day. Extra costs such as fuel (approx. NT$3/km), eTag tolls (approx. NT$1/km), roadside parking (approx. NT$40/hour), insurance, and potential fines are not included. Most rental agreements specify a daily mileage limit of 200-400 km, with surcharges ranging from NT$100 to NT$2,000 for exceeding it. Since the vast majority of rental companies do not offer one-way rentals, assuming you make a same-day round trip between Kaohsiung (Zuoying District) and TRA Hualien Station, the estimated cost for a sedan is NT$4500 or NT$7500 for a 9-seater van. This is, of course, cheaper than taking a taxi. But if you are going to TRA Hualien Station to take public transport elsewhere, renting a car for the whole day and paying for parking at the station is not cheap. Moreover, the rental location may be some distance from your home/office/starting point, and you must adhere to their business hours for pickup and return. The rental process itself is tedious, often taking an extra 30 minutes for contracts and vehicle inspection. You may even need to refuel the car yourself before returning. If you encounter a dishonest operator, you risk being hit with various unjustified charges upon return.
  • If you choose to take a taxi directly, in the Kaohsiung City area, you can use apps to hail a cab from 55688 Taiwan Taxi, Uber, Line Go, Yoxi, etc., and if you cannot hail a cab on the street, you can also consider calling 中華正大車隊 to try to book a ride. Based on the meter, the estimated fare is between NT$6,815 and 8,200. However, when considering the return trip, in Hualien County there are only about 1,010 licensed taxis. This is about 10% of the number of taxis in Kaohsiung City, and its density is just 0.5% of the Taipei/New Taipei metro area, making it 190 times more difficult to hail a cab there. Although a metered taxi from central Kaohsiung to central TRA Hualien Station might be cheaper, if your group has five people or more, taking two taxis will be more expensive, which is not significantly different from Tripool with a 9-seater van. Unlike taxis, you do not need to split into two vehicles, and everyone can depart and arrive at the same time. Considering all factors, Tripool is your best choice for traveling from Kaohsiung to TRA Hualien Station in terms of both price and service quality.
  • According to the law in Taiwan, all passengers have to fasten seat belts, no matter what ages they are. For a baby below 4-year-old or a young child who cannot comfortably be on the seat with a seat belt, it is necessary to use a car seat or a safety booster. There is a check box for renting a baby car seat or a child safety booster on the check-out page. Each rental fee is NT$300. If you need multiple car seats/boosters or you need an infant car seat, please check with our online customer service first. Tripool encourages parents to bring their car seats and boosters, and, of course, it is free of charge.
  • The quote on the website and the app already include the car rental fee, driver's fare, cost of gasoline, toll fee, insurance, and tips. Passengers don't have to pay for the driver's meals and accommodation fees. There is no other hidden fee. What passengers see on the website is the actual price.
  • For regular long-distance travelers, they find Tripool's price may be too low to be good. On the contrary, Tripool has a high standard for selecting drivers and vehicles. Besides dropping drivers who are low rated, we also send mystery shoppers regularly to test drivers' service. Tripool's drivers are not allowed to smoke in the cars, and they have to wear masks all the time during the pandemic. We don't compromise our service for a low cost. Tripool can provide excellent service with 70~80% of the market price because of AI algorithms. We use these to dispatch vehicles to increase efficiency. Tripool can use fewer drivers to serve more travelers, especially in high seasons like Chinese New Year, Christmas, and summer vacation. Fewer drivers mean better quality control. The price on tripool's website and app are dynamic. Generally, the earlier a ride is booked, the lower price it is. Most of all, all booking are 100% refundable as long as the cancelation request is made one day before noon, no matter what the reason is. If you are preparing to go from Kaohsiung to TRA Hualien Station, it's better to reserve it now to secure the best price.
  • Tripool will send a receipt through the third-party system one week after the ride. If passengers need to claim reimbursement for travel expenses, there is a blank to fill with the company's title and tax ID. It's legal, and there is no extra 5% for the receipt. Once the receipt is received via email, it can be printed out for reimbursement or saved as a PDF.
